L.A. Matheson Garden Project
L.A. Matheson has partnered with A Rocha to build and maintain a sustainable garden on the school property. L.E.A.P. along with multiple departments in the school have contributed to the planning and development of the project. It will be a teaching garden where students from all departments will come to learn. The goal is to create a market for the community and help provide our school's impoverished families with fresh produce.
Vancouver Aquarium Aqua Bus
In February of 2014 the Vancouver Aquarium Aqua Bus made its way out to Surrey to set up a learning centre in our classroom. Students got to participate in hands on learning activities about various species.

Christmas Crafts with Kirkbride - December 2013
An important component of L.E.A.P. is giving students an opportunity to give back to their community in some way. Our students love getting together with students from Kirkbride Elementary and making crafts. We participated in this event for a second year and will continue to do so.
Socials/Science Biome Project
Students were grouped into groups of four to participate in a project that combined learning from Science and Social Studies. Students were given coordinates of the earth. They had to find what biome existed at their coordinates and design a creature that could sustain itself based on the environment of the biome. Students put together a report, a model of their creature and made a presentation to the class.
Poetry
Poetry is fun with these hands on poetry activities.
Short Story Writing
Students were asked to design a setting for a story that they would later write. The purpose of creating the setting first was to inspire them to write. When the settings and stories were complete students shared them in front of the class.
Tableaux
Students were asked to select their favourite scene in the novel, Three Day Road and to create a tableau for that scene.
Christmas Crafts with Kids
Before Christmas break, five classes of students, ranging from Kindergarten to grade three, visited our classroom to make Christmas crafts. Our students taught the elementary students how to make Christmas tree crafts using the shape of their hands. Both groups of students loved the experience and it was great to give back to the community.
Physical Education
Students were required to design a game that incorporated what they had learned in a health and fitness unit. Students played each others' games.
